فوت هوستازي | News | Egyptian League – Was sacrificing coaches the solution to improve results?

Changing coaches is one of the most prevalent phenomena in the Egyptian league over the years.

The decline in the results of a team in the Egyptian league for a while, even for a short period, may soon come with a change in the technical management of the team, but is sacrificing the coach the best solution to improve the conditions of the teams whose results are declining?

At the end of the 2020/2021 season, the Egyptian Federation decided to put a clause in the list of its competitions that prevents any coach from changing the team he trains as long as the contract has been terminated by him and allows him to contract with another club if he is dispensed with, with a maximum of two clubs only.

A decision that was certainly circumvented and was not fully implemented because the coach agreed with his club to dismiss him so that he could work again throughout the season.

At the beginning of last season, the Football Association decided to cancel this item from its regulations before the Association of Clubs returned it after taking over the responsibility of managing the Egyptian Premier League.

was فوت هوستازي.com He conducted an investigation into the regulation of changing the coach’s ban on taking more than one club during a season.

The most prominent question remains, is changing the coach in the middle of the season positive or negative for the clubs?

Veteran coach Farouk Jaafar spoke to فوت هوستازي.com On the phenomenon of changing coaches, he said: “There is nothing in football that makes a coach leave his club because he lost two or three games. The coach must get a chance or go through a good preparation period.”

He continued, “Teams that change their coach every short period is due to pressure from the fans or the boards of directors who cannot be patient with defeat, and this is a mistake.”

In view of Farouk’s speech, all the Egyptian coaches during the past two seasons did not get a full opportunity because they did not have a preparation period due to the cohesion of seasons, and the current season may be the first that provides an opportunity to obtain a preparation period before its start after obtaining a sufficient rest period.

To answer the main question of the topic, let’s go back to last season and review the results of the teams before and after changing the coaches to judge correctly whether it was positive or negative.

42 coaches trained various Egyptian clubs in the Premier League during the last season, without counting the temporary coaches, which is a very large number. In the same season in the English Premier League, only 10 coaches were changed throughout the year.

Future with Ali Maher and Al-Ahly Bank with Khaled Jalal were the only two clubs that did not make any technical change from the beginning of the season to its end.

We will now review all the technical changes for the Egyptian League teams last season and the results of the teams before and after those changes.

Al Ahly

Al-Ahly started the season with Pitso Mosimane and stumbled on more than one occasion in the league, but the opportunity was still available to top the league if it won its postponed matches.

Musimani left and Ricardo Suarez took charge of coaching the team, and with Suarez the situation did not improve at all. The team lost the Egypt Cup final against Zamalek and lost the league title and even finished third. In 17 matches, the team won only 9 of them.

Zamalek

Zamalek also started the season with a foreign coach, Patrice Carteron, the league title holder with the team the season before last, but he faced a period of declining results at the beginning of the season and achieved 6 wins in 9 matches in the league, but the biggest problem was in the African Champions League, which did not achieve any victory in the role his groups so that the team is steps away from bidding farewell to the championship.

After the departure of Carteron, Jesualdo Ferreira took charge. At first, the matter did not differ much, and the results fluctuated and he was already excluded from the African Champions League until he found the right combination and the team was eventually able to achieve the Egyptian Cup and the Egyptian League title.

Pyramids

Pyramids started the season with Ihab Galal, and the Egyptian coach was stable with the team and achieving good results until the Egyptian Football Association decided to appoint him as a coach for the Egyptian national team to leave the ranks of Pyramids, achieving 17 wins and losing 6 matches.

After Jalal’s departure, Takis Junias took over the training of Pyramids, the former coach of the team before Jalal.

With the Greek, the results of Pyramids remained as they are going well for the team that finished the league in second place as the best position in its history, but it lacks titles, which Pyramids officials put it as a main goal and has not been achieved so far.

Smouha

Ahmed Sami was the one who took charge of training Smouha at the beginning of the season, but decided to leave in the middle of the season in order to train Ceramica Cleopatra.

Abdel Hamid Bassiouni succeeded Sami in the training of Smouha and began the task with relatively good results, before it later declined and the club decided to leave at the end of the season.

Bassiouni played 19 matches with Smouha, winning 5 matches, drawing 8 and losing 6.

Ismaili

Ismaily was the team that changed the most coaches during the last season, as it was punished by 4 coaches.

It started with Talaat Youssef, who took over the team in only 3 matches and lost them completely, so that he did not technically lead the team from the field due to his infection with the Corona virus, but Yahya El-Koumi, the club’s president, decided to leave.

Juan Brown took over the responsibility of coaching the team, succeeding Talaat Youssef, and the situation did not differ much, and the team did not win the league during 6 matches led by the Argentine coach to occupy the last place.

After Brown’s departure, Hamad Ibrahim took over at his first opportunity as a technical manager, and the team achieved with him the first victory in the league and qualified for the 16th round of the Egypt Cup. During 7 matches, he won 3 and lost two games and tied in two others, so El-Koumi decided to leave the team.

The last coach was Hamza El-Gamal, who achieved the best results in the Ismaili season by winning 5 matches in 15 matches in which he led the team. and escape the relegation struggle.

After the end of the season, El-Koumi decided to leave Hamza El-Gamal, and attributed this decision to the coach’s refusal to involve the Al-Bab players during the last matches after ensuring that they remained in the league.

Egyptian

Al-Masry started with a fluctuating start in the results with Moein Al-Shabani, and in his first seven matches, the team tied in 5 matches and won twice, then the results began to improve more and the team suffered the first defeat after 8 rounds in the league, compared to 3 wins and 4 draws.

After 33 matches, Al-Shaabani left the ranks of Al-Masry, winning 10 matches, drawing in the same number, and losing 13 matches.

After the departure of Al-Shaabani, Hossam Hassan took over the team’s training and was able to make a relative improvement in the results in 15 matches, winning 6, losing 3 and drawing 6, and succeeded in keeping the team away from the relegation struggle before leaving at the end of his contract, which expired at the end of the season.

Alexandria Federation

Before assuming the training of Al-Masry, Hossam Hassan had started the season with Al-Ittihad of Alexandria, but he left after 13 rounds of training the team, during which he achieved only 3 wins, to be succeeded by Emad Al-Nahhas in the team training.

The situation with Al-Nahhas did not differ much, and the average results continued, and he won 5 of the 17 matches he played, leaving 4 rounds before the end of the league, leaving the teams in 12th place, but with a difference of 6 points over the relegation struggle.

Mohamed Omar finished the season with Al Ittihad as a temporary coach and succeeded in keeping the team out of the relegation cycle in the end.

Enppi

Enppi was going well with his first coach, Helmy Toulan, who had been on the job since the previous season, but he left after disagreements with the board of directors to replace Jorvan Vieira.

With Vieira, Enppi’s performance declined a lot, and during 14 matches, the team managed to win only 3 times, was defeated in 7 and drew in 4, to leave at the end of the season.

Vanguards of the army

Abdel Hamid Bassiouni was the first coach for the army’s pioneers in the season, but the beginning did not help the coach who won the Super Cup title in the previous season. Bassiouni left after only 3 matches, during which he lost two matches and drew one.

Ahmed Abdel Aziz was the second coach of the Army’s pioneers, but he did not last long either, and he left after only 4 games, leaving the team in 16th place, so Tariq Al-Ashry took over the team’s coaching.

Al-Ashry lost in the first match, but the results were completely different with him, as he achieved the longest unbeaten streak in the club’s history with 16 matches. In the end, the team finished the league in fourth place, but it did not qualify for the Confederation Cup because of sending the names participating in the continental tournaments before the end of the season.

Egypt clearing

3 coaches came to Egypt for clearing throughout the season, they are Tamer Mostafa, Tariq Hajjaj and Eid Maraziq, but none of them achieved the expected results, and the team eventually relegated to the second degree, occupying the last place with only 15 points.

El Gouna

Reda Shehata started the season with El-Gouna and achieved above-average results with the team, before leaving after the 15th round, leaving the team in 11th place, with Tamer Mustafa replacing him.

With Tamer Mostafa, the team’s results worsened, and it achieved one victory in 9 matches, leaving 11 rounds before the end of the league.

Talaat Youssef returned to training again after the Ismaili experience and took over the training of El Gouna and was able to make a relative improvement in the results, but in the end the team ended up in the second division.

Ceramica Cleopatra

Ceramica Cleopatra started the season with Haitham Shaaban, but he left after 17 rounds and the team ranked 13th, to be replaced by Ahmed Sami.

It was no different under the leadership of Sami, and the team finished the league in 14th place after leading the team in 16 matches, during which it won 3 matches, drew 7 and lost 6, and the coach is still continuing with the team.

The Arab Contractors

Al-Ittihad’s experience was not the first for Nahas last season, as he started the season with the Arab Contractors after two seasons, during which he succeeded with the team and qualified for the African Confederation Cup.

The results of the Arab Contractors declined in the third season under the leadership of Al-Nahhas, and the team won one match during the first 8 rounds, so the coach left the team and Mohamed Odeh took over the responsibility instead.

Odeh also did not complete the season with Al Mokawloon and left 4 rounds before the end and is in the penultimate position.

Shawky Gharib was the last to coach Al Mokawloon in the season and succeeded in saving the team from relegation in the last round of the league.

Ghazal Mahalla

Odeh had started the season with Ghazl El-Mahalla, but he decided to leave after rounds in order to train the contractors, and he had won two matches and drew in 4.

Abdel Hamid Bassiouni, the most coaches who took charge of coaching the teams last season, was behind the return of Ghazl El Mahalla.

After 10 rounds, Bassiouni decided to leave Mahalla to train Smouha, leaving the team in tenth place.

Mustafa Abdo took over the responsibility to succeed Ghazl El Mahalla, and with him the team achieved only 12 points in 15 matches and avoided relegation in the last round.

He led Abdo Ghazl El-Mahalla to the Egyptian League Cup final, but was defeated in the final by Future with five goals to no return.

Farko

Farco’s first season in the Premier League saw Magdy Abdel-Aty take charge of coaching the team, but he left the team after 13 matches with the team, during which he scored 16 points to occupy the eighth place, but was eliminated from the 32nd round of the Egypt Cup by Kafr El-Sheikh.

Nuno Almeida was the second coach to coach Farco after Abdel-Aty, and with him the team had the most draws in the league in 13 games, compared to 4 wins and 4 defeats, to finish the season in eighth place, as Abdel-Aty left him.

Eastern Company

Eastern was also in his first season in the Premier League, and the beginning was under the leadership of Alaa Noah, but he left after rounds during which the team was defeated.

After Noah’s departure, Alaa Abdel-Aal took over the team’s training, and the results did not improve at first, as he was defeated in 4 of the first 5 rounds he led the team.

After the eighth round, Eastern Company’s performance improved a lot, and during 33 matches in which Abdel-Aal led the team, he managed to win 8 matches, draw 12 and lose 13, and the team scored 36 points.

Abdel-Aal was just around the corner from escaping from the relegation cycle, but the team’s difficult schedule in the last rounds prevented achieving the dream of survival. Despite that, Abdel-Aal left the team and gained the confidence of the army’s vanguards next season after the wonderful performance he showed with Eastern company.

Looking at the full results of the clubs with all the coaches last season, the change affected positively in particular three teams, namely Zamalek, who finally won the Premier League after a faltering start with Patrice Carteron.

The other team was Tala’a Al-Jaish, who were competing for relegation at the beginning of the season and finished the league in fourth place under the leadership of Tariq Al-Ashry.

And the third team was the Eastern Company, which changed its shape and became one of the difficult teams under the leadership of Alaa Abdel Aal, but in view of the three teams, the common factor between them is that the coaches get the full opportunity without succumbing to the idea of changing the coach with the first stumble and patience was the key to success in the end.

The phenomenon of changing coaches may be positive or negative. Patience on the coach, of course, does not mean his success, but the coach’s experience cannot be held with a match or even 5 in the middle of the season and without a preparation period because the experience to be fully measured must be judged after a long period and after the coach has a chance perfect.

Before the start of the new season that awaits us in a few days, only 8 teams will enter with the coaches who finished the season with them, while 10 teams decided to appoint a new technical management, including two clubs who were promoted to the Premier League.

The new season will be the best season to judge the experiences of coaches because, as we mentioned earlier, it is the first season in which clubs have a real preparation period, but the only condition for judging the experience will be to have the opportunity in full and not to make changes after only two rounds.
